If you are a dreamer, come in
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer...
If you're a pretender, come sit by the fire
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin
Come in!
Come in!
- Invitation, Shel Silverstein
Welcome everyone to the inaugural post of my blog, The Domesticated Artist. I'm excited for you all to be on this journey with me! This is a very new way of sharing my thoughts and feelings, being a visual artist means most of my communication is in pictures, which I will be sharing as well, but I figured a blog would be a good way to communicate ideas, share pictures, tell stories, and build community. Before I get too ahead of myself, I suppose introductions are in order.
My name is Brennon, I'm 34 years old, and am an illustrator and fine artist. I've been painting since I was 16, and have been drawing since I was 6 or 7. I studied art at the University of California, Irvine and at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, California. I work in many different mediums, mainly oil paint, pen and ink, charcoal, and watercolor. I worked in the coffee industry for 9 years as a barista, coffee shop manager, and roaster in order to make money while I was making art, and I recently left the field in order to pursue art full time.
I'm mainly a portrait artist, but in reality I am much more than that. I am an illustrator, I am a still life painter, I am a little bit of a graphic designer, I am a figure artist, I am a conceptual artist, I'm a visual artist. I do a little bit of all of it, and a lot of a little bit of it.
I have a passion for coffee, and a passion for food (both eating and making it). I played bass once upon a time, and I've been known to strum a guitar now and then. I follow some astrology and I read tarot cards. I have a low tolerance for most of humanity early in the morning, and I hate working past 3 in the afternoon. I love animals and my favorite color is green. I'm willing to listen to most kinds of music, but there's a special place in my heart for sad indie and hardcore rap. I love gardening, though I've had mixed success at it, and I love photography. I love to curate, because I have good taste and I love to share.
On this blog, I'll be posting what I'm working on, thoughts that may turn into projects, my inspirations, artists I'm following, instructional content, products I use, techniques I'm trying out, and all manner of things artsy.
Cheers and Be Prolific!
